Oxygen, heat, and fuel are frequently referred to as the “fire triangle.” When there is enough oxygen to sustain combustion, enough heat to raise the material to its ignition temperature, and some sort of fuel or combustible material, a fire starts. Dryers and their vents create favorable conditions to ignite lint immediately behind the appliance or in the rear venting system.
Even if a fire hasn’t occurred, the ability of the dryer to do its job is greatly impaired by lint obstacles, resulting in longer dry times and higher energy costs.
